Clean Rivers Cooperative Members have access membership training such as HAZWOPER, ICS and the Annual Boom Rodeo.  But did you know that the Cooperative can curate training specific to a member’s needs?

On March 7 &14, 2023, the Cooperative provided specific training on knot tying and shore anchoring for Tidewater Barge Lines. This two-session event took place during Tidewater’s Annual Lock Closure Training.

Reuben Greer, Tidewater Environmental Manager, planned the training with Cooperative Staff and Response Contractors within a short amount of time with the intention of providing the team at Tidewater additional training that they are not typically exposed to.  Said Greer, “Our training objectives were to augment our equipment deployment and annual hazardous waste training experience. Most of our staff are quite experienced so we wanted to add to their expertise with some training they typically aren’t exposed to in order to improve their abilities and knowledge in the event of a response.”

Tidewater also wanted to introduce their upriver staff and resources to the Cooperative and Response Contractor, US Ecology. Approximately 40 Tidewater Staff participated over the two-day training. Greer said that he received positive feedback on the knot tying and boom anchoring training. “Our staff received praise from the trainers on their knot tying knowledge. Staff enjoyed learning some new things while also showing off their skills.”

In addition to the knot tying instruction and boom shore anchoring using three T-posts, Trainer Greg Johnson of US Ecology provided observation and input for improvement of future trainings.  For future trainings Greer remarked that he would like to make the Cooperative provided training the focus of their event rather than a short segment.
