The Clean Rivers Cooperative Operations and Training Facility in NW Portland underwent a remodel project in 2024. The construction started mid-July and finished up at the end of November. The updates created two new office spaces, that are now used by the Operations Manager and Equipment Maintenance Supervisor and split up the large training room to create a private conference room. In addition, several safety and ADA upgrades were made.
This Project was originally concepted in 2020 by then General Manager Curtis Cannizzaro and approved by the Cooperative Board of Directors. Upon her hire in early 2023, Cooperative Business Manager Polly Hyke took over management the project. Throughout 2023 and into early 2024, several design changes were made, and additional scope was added in order to accommodate City of Portland Bureau of Development permitting requirements. Design services were rendered by Candid Designs and Walter Robert Construction, based in SW Washington, was engaged to carry out the work.
During the long construction period, Cooperative Staff worked hard to keep the facility available for member events and successfully hosted a quarterly member training and a worst-case scenario tabletop exercise while under construction.
The Cooperative moved its operations to this facility in 2014 and remodeled the old mechanics shop within the Kinder Morgan Terminals compound. This current remodel creates a private conference room that will be used for Board of Directors meetings and can function as a breakout space during tabletop exercises. The new offices increased the office count from 2 to 4 to accommodate all Cooperative Staff and brought the offices in closer proximity to foster the team environment.
