Clean Rivers Cooperative is proud to announce the addition of two Queensboro QME-30 Multi-Skimmer Systems, generously donated by BP’s Cherry Point Refinery. This significant contribution highlights the value of strong partnerships within the spill response community and demonstrates a shared commitment to protecting the waters of the Pacific Northwest. The donation further enhances Clean Rivers’ ability to provide rapid, effective oil spill response on behalf of its members and stakeholders.
The Queensboro QME-30 is a highly versatile oil recovery system designed to efficiently recover a wide range of oil types and viscosities. Each skimmer is capable of recovering up to 905 barrels per day (depending on oil type) and features interchangeable brush, drum, and disc recovery modules that can be changed in the field without tools. This flexibility allows responders to optimize recovery efforts for everything from light fuels to heavier crude oils and bunker fuels. The skimmers also include onboard transfer pumps and hydraulic power systems that support continuous and effective recovery operations.
The addition of these systems enhances Clean Rivers’ already robust equipment inventory and strengthens the cooperative’s ability to adapt to a variety of spill scenarios. Having multiple recovery options available allows response managers to select the most effective equipment for the conditions encountered, helping maximize recovery rates. Just as importantly, the new skimmers provide additional opportunities to strategically stage critical response equipment throughout the more than 300 miles of the Columbia River System that make up Clean Rivers’ area of interest. By distributing equipment closer to potential response locations, the cooperative can further improve preparedness and response capability to further support our members when it matters most. The QME-30’s interchangeable brush, drum, and disc recovery systems also provide responders with the flexibility needed to address a wide range of oil types and operating conditions.
